There is no single breast surgery that is ideal for every woman. In fact, many women benefit from a combination of procedures such as augmentation with lift. Both of these procedures offer specific benefits and can easily be combined to produce both a full and shapely appearance to your chest.
During your initial consultation with board-certified Massachusetts and New Hampshire plastic surgeon Dr. George P. Chatson, your physical characteristics and expectations will be assessed and the procedure best suited for your body determined.
Differences Between Breast Lift and Breast Augmentation
A breast lift is a procedure that lifts your breasts into a more youthful position. With a breast lift, the effects of aging, gravity, pregnancy, and weight fluctuations can be addressed and ptosis (sagging or drooping) can be corrected.
Breast augmentation enlarges or enhances the size of your breasts. While breast augmentation can correct some breast ptosis, it cannot provide the same degree of reshaping as a breast lift. Mild breast ptosis can be corrected with breast augmentation while more significant breast ptosis requires a breast lift.
The factors that cause ptosis can also cause a reduction in breast symmetry and volume. For this reason, the two procedures are often combined to fully restore a beautiful appearance to your breasts. This is not always necessary and will be dependent on factors unique to your anatomy. Dr. Chatson will discuss this with you in full during your initial consultation.
