What Is SAFELipoâ„¢?
SAFELipo™ is a revolutionary new liposuction technique designed to minimize risks, reduce postoperative discomfort and recovery time, and optimize body contouring results. Utilizing a three-part process designed by Dr. Simeon Wall of Shreveport, SAFELipo is available through only a few board-certified plastic surgeons nation-wide.
Unlike other types of liposuction, SAFELipo does not rely on force, thermal heat, lasers, or other methods to emulsify and remove fat. This gives SAFELipo very distinct advantages over alternatives and makes it the ideal solution for many of our patients.
What Are The Benefits of SAFELipoâ„¢?
Advantages offered by SAFELipo include:
- No damage to blood vessels, surrounding tissue, or muscles
- No risk of thermal burns
- Reduced risks of bleeding
- Reduced risks of postoperative swelling and bruising
- Faster recovery process
- Fat equalization
Fat equalization is entirely unique to SAFELipo and one of its biggest benefits. This final step of the SAFELipo process smooths the fat underneath the skin to eliminate risks of lumpy, dimpled, or wavy sections in the treatment area. This allows SAFELipo to produce highly contoured and ideally smooth results no matter what part of the body is being treated.
Due to the enhanced safety, reduced risks, and more reliable results it offers, SAFELipo is the chosen liposuction technique of our board-certified plastic surgeon. Dr. Chatson will discuss the benefits offered by this technique in greater detail during your liposuction consultation at our Andover, MA or Nashua, NH office.
Am I A Good Liposuction Candidate?
The best candidates for liposuction are men and women who are in generally good health and close to their ideal BMI. As with all liposuction options, SAFELipo is not a good alternative for weight management or a healthy method of weight loss. If you are not close to your goal weight, Dr. Chatson will discuss methods that can be used to help get you where you need to be for optimal SAFELipo results.
Good SAFELipo candidates should also be:
- Nonsmokers
- Ready for a surgical procedure and recovery period
- Aware of all potential liposuction risks
- Willing to follow both pre and postoperative instructions
While safer and more effective than many liposuction options, SAFELipo is still a surgical procedure. Dr. Chatson will honestly and openly discuss the benefits and potential risks of this surgery in greater detail during your initial consultation.
How Does The Liposuction Procedure Work?
Liposuction removes stubborn deposits of fat from the body through suction. With laser liposuction options such as SmartLipo, fat deposits are broken apart with thermal heat. Ultrasonic lipo uses soundwaves to break apart accumulations of fat. Tumescent liposuction makes fat removal easier with an injection of medical fluids. SAFELipo is different than all of these.
SAFELipo follows three steps:
- Stubborn deposits of fat are broken up and gently removed from surrounding tissue with a specially designed basket cannula
- Fat deposits are mechanically emulsified and removed using safe but effective levels of suction
- Fat shifting and fat grafting are combined to smooth any remaining layers of fat for an ideally contoured result
Mechanical separation of fat deposits is nothing new, but the method by which fat is first removed from surrounding tissue and then from the body with SAFELipo is entirely unique. With decades of experience and a true commitment to the safety and happiness of each of our patients, Dr. Chatson has selected SAFELipo due to it reduced risks and impressive results. When you come to our Salem, New Hampshire or Lowell, Massachusetts area offices for a liposuction consultation, Dr. Chatson will answer any questions you may have about this technique and help you determine if SAFELipo is the best fit for your needs.
What Areas Of The Body Can Be Treated With SAFELipoâ„¢?
Liposuction can be used to remove fat deposits from almost any area of the body. Some of the most popular liposuction treatment areas are:
- Ankles and calves
- Thighs and buttocks
- Hips and waist
- Abdominal area
- Chest (male breast reduction)
- Lower, mid, and upper back
- Arms
- Neck and face
SAFELipo can be used to remove the fat deposits responsible for the conditions commonly referred to as love handles, muffin top, man boobs, and cankles. But more than simply removing fat from targeted areas of the body, SAFELipo shifts and defines remaining fat to produce a healthy, natural-looking, and ideally contoured result. Of course, complete fat removal is best for cankles and man boobs, but midbody issues such as muffin top and love handles often do best through a combination of fat removal and recontouring.
If lumpy, uneven, or bulky fat deposits are diminishing contours in any part of your body, liposuction may be the most effective option for your needs. Call Dr. Chatson at 978-687-1151 or 603-882-2103 to schedule your liposuction consultation in MA or NH to learn more.
What Is Recovery from SAFELipoâ„¢ Like?
The SAFELipo technique can help reduce trauma and, along with it, risks for postoperative bleeding, swelling and bruising. However, these things cannot be entirely avoided during liposuction recovery.
Following your procedure, a compression garment may or may not be needed to help promote ideal contours. Dr. Chatson will help you determine if a garment will be necessary before your procedure, allowing you to plan accordingly.
With or without a compression garment, some swelling and postoperative discomfort should be expected. Discomfort can be dealt with through over the counter medications. Swelling can be reduced by combining mild forms of exercise – such as walking – with plenty of rest. Rest is essential and should be the primary focus for the first few days following your liposuction procedure.
Most people are able to resume working within two to five days. When you return will depend on your level of comfort, which areas you have had treated, and the physical requirements of your job. Men and women with physically demanding jobs may need to wait up to four weeks before resuming all duties.
Exercise should begin as soon as you feel comfortable moving around. Start with frequent walks to help prevent blood clots, reduce swelling, and improve comfort. Within a few weeks, these walks can become faster and new forms of exercise can be added. However, sculpting and advanced forms of exercise will need to be avoided for up to six weeks to help prevent complications.
Your comfortable liposuction recovery is important to us. To help ensure you are recovering appropriately and to address questions that may arise during this period, Dr. Chatson will ask that you schedule follow up visits in the weeks following your procedure. During these visits, Dr. Chatson can help you decide when it will be best to engage in more demanding physical activities.
How Can I Maintain My SAFELipoâ„¢ Results?
Mild forms of exercise are useful during recovery. More demanding forms of exercise are useful for maintaining results.
You should aim for 30 to 60 minutes of exercise daily for the maintenance of your liposuction results. This can include walking or jogging, swimming, yoga, and similar activities. In addition to this, 90 to 120 minutes of more demanding exercise should be incorporated into your weekly routine.
Good options here include Pilates or barre classes, spinning or cycling, running, boot camp classes, and similar cardiovascular undertakings. Weight lifting and other forms of sculpting can also be useful for enhancing your SAFELipo results.
Diet is incredibly important following liposuction. SAFELipo results are only as permanent as you make them. If you do not maintain a healthy diet, new fat will accumulate and your liposuction results will become obscured by newly formed fat deposits. To avoid this, simply make healthy choices.
Healthy food choices include:
- Fresh vegetables and fruits
- Nuts, legumes, and seeds
- Lean proteins
- Complex carbohydrates
Try to avoid processed foods whenever possible and work to eliminate refined sugars, high fructose corn syrup, and sodium-heavy foods and beverages from your diet. These things serve no useful purpose and are linked not only to weight gain, but a host of health problems. Make healthy choices to maintain your liposuction results and watch those healthy choices have a positive impact on every part of your life.
