Rhinoplasty Recovery

Rhinoplasty Recovery

Recovery from rhinoplasty (nose surgery) is relatively fast compared to some other types of facial plastic surgery. Following rhinoplasty, some swelling and bruising are to be expected, but discomfort is typically very mild. You will be provided with instructions on how to minimize swelling. Discomfort can generally be handled with over-the-counter medications, though some instances may require a prescribed analgesic to be taken for a few days. Bruising will subside on its own, but the process can be speeded by following all of the pre and postoperative directions provided by our office.

You will need to take one to two weeks off from work following nose surgery. More strenuous activities will need to be avoided for a slightly longer period. During your follow-up visits, Dr. Chatson will carefully assess your progress to help you determine when it is safe to resume all normal activities.

Your final results, which will be permanent, should be noticeable within a period of twelve to sixteen weeks.

Will I Need Packing Material in My Nostrils Following Rhinoplasty?

Depending on the type of rhinoplasty that has been performed and the amount of correction needed to achieve your desired results, it may be necessary to use packing or a splint to help your nose hold its correct shape. These materials may need to stay in place for up to one week. They will be removed during a follow-up visit.

You may need to keep your head elevated, even while you sleep, for up to six weeks after surgery to help protect your nose from unnecessary trauma. It will also be important to keep your incisions and any dressing dry during the first few weeks of recovery to help prevent complications such as infection or poor incision healing.
