When you are considering a plastic surgery procedure, it is very important that you take your time to choose the best surgeon. Your choice of surgeon will play a direct role in your safety, comfort, and final results.
One of the first things to look for is patient reviews. These can often be found on a surgeon’s website, but also look at reviews on Google, as well as on surgeon-specific review sites such as HealthGrades and realself.
After winnowing down your search through reviews, look at each selected surgeons’Â before and after gallery. This will give you a better idea of the kind of results they are capable of producing. Be sure to also look at their bio to make sure they are board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon is important for your health and safety.
Once you have selected a handful of surgeons you are curious about, start scheduling consultations where you can meet with them in person, get a feel for their office and staff, and determine your level of comfort with each practice. A consultation is not a commitment. You are free to meet with as many surgeons as needed in order to find one you are confident in. Just be aware that consultations are not typically free.
Quests for Your Plastic Surgeon
Good questions to ask your plastic surgeon include:
- Are you board-certified by the ABPS?
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many procedures like mine have you performed?
- Where do you perform your procedures?
- What is included in the cost of the procedure?
- Do you offer financing options?
- How do you handle complications?
If you are uncomfortable with any of the answers you are given, look for another plastic surgeon. The choice to undergo a procedure is a big one. It deserves a surgeon who values your safety and happiness above all else.
