March is National Breast Implant Awareness Month, a month dedicated to providing honest information to women who have breast implants, along with those considering breast augmentation, and empowering them to make informed decisions about their health. If you have concerns about your breast implants or would like information about removal and revision, give us a call to schedule a consultation right away.
Breast Implant Removal
There are a number of reasons to consider breast implant removal, the simplest of which is returning to your natural breast size. If removal is occurring without replacement, some sagging may be present. Breast lift surgery can be used to firm the breast mound in these cases.
Other reasons to consider removal include capsular contracture, implant failure/rupture, or a desire to change the shape or size of the bust. No matter the reasons, Dr. Chatson is here to listen, provide honest information about your options, and help you choose the best way to achieve your goals.
Breast Implant Illness (BII)
Another reason to consider breast implant removal is a rare and incredibly difficult-to-diagnose disorder called Breast Implant Illness (BII). BII can have a range of seemingly disparate symptoms including:
- Persistent muscle and joint discomfort
- Chills and fever
- Chest pain
- Fatigue and sleep disturbances
- Rashes and dry skin
- Memory and concentration problems
- Mood disorders, anxiety, and depression
- Hair loss
At present, our knowledge of the scope of symptoms related to BII is based almost entirely on the reports of those women who are experiencing it. If you are experiencing unusual symptoms that you suspect have to do with your implants, get in touch right away to schedule a consultation and learn about your options.
BII requires the removal of breast implants, but simply taking them out may not fully solve the problem. Dr. Chatson has found success with the en bloc capsulectomy technique, an advanced method of implant removal that removes the capsule around the implant as well as the implant itself. This method has shown the most promise in the treatment of breast implant illness and the elimination of its symptoms.
