What can nose surgery correct?
Nose surgery, or rhinoplasty, can be used to correct any issue impacting the appearance and function of your nose. Commonly, people come to our Andover, Massachusetts and Nashua, New Hampshire offices to address problems such as:
- Nose or nostril shape and size
- Nose or nostril direction or position
- Nose or nostril width
- Humps, bumps, and ridges
Who is a good candidate for nose surgery?
Good candidates for nose surgery are dissatisfied with the appearance of their nose. In addition, they should be in generally good health and prepared to follow postsurgical instructions. While this surgery can be performed on people as young as 16, it is often best to wait until you are 18 or older to ensure you are physically and emotionally prepared for the surgical procedure and recovery period.
Where are incisions placed in nose surgery?
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. George P. Chatson may place incisions on the inside of your nose or along the skin separating your nostrils. This will be based on your unique needs and the final aesthetic results you desire. The goal of nose surgery is to restore symmetry and complement your other facial features. Dr. Chatson will tailor your procedure to meet your needs and provide you with the beautiful nose you deserve.
What is recovery from nose surgery like?
Some mild pain, swelling, and bruising is common after nose surgery. Pain is generally very mild and can be controlled with the use of medications prescribed by our office. Swelling can be controlled with cold compresses, head elevation, and rest. Bruising will subside on its own within a couple of weeks.
You should be able to return to work within 10 days, but will need to avoid strenuous activities for three weeks. Activities which could result in nose trauma should be avoided for a few months. Dr. Chatson will work with you during this time to help ensure you are healing properly and to advise you when it is safe to resume all of your activities.
Results from your procedure will be visible immediately, becoming more pronounced as swelling and bruising subside. Final results should be fully apparent within four months and will last for a lifetime.
