What Can Eyelid Surgery Do For Me?

Blepharoplasty, more commonly known as an eyelid lift or eyelid surgery, is used to produce a more alert and youthful appearance. By gently lifting sagging eyelids and eliminating dark and puffy skin, an eyelid lift can make dramatic improvements to the appearance of the midface, helping to soften and rejuvenate the area around the eyes for an overall more attractive look.

Upper eyelid surgery is designed to lift sagging eyelids. This option is used to un-hood the eyes, which can help with vision in some cases. It is also used to remove wrinkles and puffy skin from the upper eye, restoring a better defined and more noticeably attractive appearance.

Lower eyelid surgery is designed to remove dark circles and bags from underneath the eyes. It can also be used to reduce general puffiness and remove lower eyelid wrinkles. It is common to combine lower and upper eyelid lift, though this is not always necessary. During your initial consultation, Dr. Chatson will carefully assess your areas of concern and provide information on all of the procedures that could help you reach your goals.

What About Crow’s Feet?

Crow’s feet are the horizontal wrinkles that extend from the corners of your eyes. Dynamic wrinkles, crow’s feet appear when facial expressions change and are one of the most common issues brought about by aging, genetics, and lifestyle choices. Eyelid surgery cannot remove crow’s feet.

The most effective treatment for crow’s feet is BOTOX® Cosmetic, a neuromodulator designed to soften dynamic wrinkles. If crow’s feet are a concern for you, Dr. Chatson can discuss treatment options during your initial consultation. BOTOX® Cosmetic is often used in combination with eyelid surgery to improve the appearance of the entire area.

While blepharoplasty can do many things, it cannot lift sagging eyebrows. For this, a brow lift will be needed. Brow lift surgery can be performed at the same time as eyelid lift and is a common combination for patients interested in more profound changes.
