Stress and Weight Gain

Stress is directly linked to weight gain. From increasing the appetite (and cravings for rich “comfort” foods) to decreasing motivation for exercise and activity, daily stress can compound, over time resulting in weight gain and increased risks for heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes. This makes stress reduction an important part of weight management and healthy living.

April is Stress Awareness Month and The American Institute of Stress has several suggestions for addressing this common condition. These include:

  • Eating healthy
  • Getting plenty of exercise
  • Maintaining family and social relationships
  • Avoiding drugs and alcohol

Mindfulness practices, such as yoga or meditation, can also be very useful in stress reduction, as can carving out some time, every day, to do something you enjoy.

Diet, Exercise, and Surgical Assistance

Healthy eating and exercise are great ways to reduce stress and slim and tone the frame. These methods may not, however, be enough to fully address the fat accumulations brought about by stress. In these cases, it may be best to consider how various body contouring treatments could help you reach your goals.

At our Nashua, NH and North Andover, MA offices, Dr. Chatson provides several body contouring treatments, including SAFELipo™, a revolutionary liposuction technique that utilizes fat equalization for natural-looking and highly pleasing results. SAFELipo™ is less invasive and more efficacious than many other options on the market and comes with reduced risks and a shorter recovery period than traditional liposuction methods as well.

In addition to SAFELipo™, Dr. Chatson offers abdominoplasty (tummy tuck surgery), thigh and arm lift, and body lift surgery. These can be performed individually or in combinations, such as with mommy makeover surgery or post-weight loss body contouring, to produce the most individualized results. During your initial consultation, Dr. Chatson will carefully assess your frame and provide information on all of your options to help you choose which contouring treatments will assist you in reaching your ultimate goals.
