According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, advertising claims touting the benefits of cosmetic procedures that use stem cells are not verified by science and should be approached with extreme caution. Stem cells may one day prove to have amazing benefits in reconstructive and plastic surgery procedures, but studies into the effectiveness, safety, and side-effects of stem cells are still in their infancy.
Claims that stem cells can be used for breast augmentation, facelifts, and even as a minimally invasive alterative to liposuction are simply irresponsible at this point. The only FDA approved cosmetic stem cell treatment is a product designed to treat facial wrinkles. It is currently undergoing extensive post-approval surveillance to determine its long-term efficacy and safety.
