Static vs. Dynamic Wrinkles

Dynamic vs Static Wrinkles

There are two primary types of wrinkles that can make the face appear more aged:

  • Static, those wrinkles that are always present, such as on the cheeks and around the nose and mouth
  • Dynamic, those wrinkles that mostly appear when facial expressions change

These wrinkles are caused by different things and impact different areas of the body. It makes sense, then, that they respond best to different types of treatment.

Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation

Static wrinkles respond best to dermal fillers. These products work to restore lost volume by stimulating the body’s production of collagen. Dr. Chatson offers a range of trusted fillers, including those from the Juvéderm® and Restylane® families, enabling him to restore a soft and youthful look that can last for several months or even years.

The dermal fillers offered by Dr. Chatson can treat volume loss in the cheeks and temples, general skin laxity, wrinkles around the nose and mouth, and wrinkles on the chin. Some of the fillers at our office can also treat jowls or be used to add fullness to the lips. Many fillers can be used in multiple areas to produce an overall more youthful appearance.

Dynamic wrinkles respond best to neurotoxins like BOTOX® Cosmetic. These products interrupt signals between nerves and muscles, allowing muscles to relax and overlying skin to become smooth.

BOTOX® Cosmetic can be used for forehead creases, frown lines, crow’s feet, bunny lines, and lipstick lines. Neurotoxins can also be used to improve the contours of the jaw, eliminate pebbly chin, and treat neckbands. Treatments like BOTOX® Cosmetic have the potential to last for up to four months and results can easily be maintained through regularly scheduled touch-ups.
