Five Common Symptoms of BII

Woman with breast pain

Several symptoms are possible in women suffering from Breast Implant Illness (BII). Five of the most common are:

  • General Fatigue
  • Concentration Issues/Brain Fog
  • Rashes/Dry Skin
  • Joint Pain/Stiffness
  • Muscle Pain/Weakness

However, while these symptoms of BII can be found in several cases, not all women struggling with the condition will experience these specific symptoms. Other symptoms of BII include sleep disturbances, dry eyes, hair loss, anxiety, depression, and memory loss.

Treating BII

Breast implant illness is treated through capsulectomy and explantation. Unlike breast implant removal, during explantation and capsulectomy, the implant and the capsule that holds it are removed. The removal of the breast implant capsule is more effective than breast implant removal alone and helps to ensure the best outcomes.

Dr. George Chatson utilizes the en bloc capsulectomy technique for complete capsule removal. This method allows Dr. Chatson to remove even the thinnest capsules intact, helping to treat the symptoms of BII while reducing additional risks. During your initial consultation, he can discuss this technique in more detail to help you understand what it entails.

Restoring Balance

The removal of breast implants can alter the upper body and change the dimensions of your frame. If asymmetry or ptosis become issues following en bloc capsulectomy, Dr. Chatson can help restore balance through fat grafting, breast lift surgery, or another breast enhancement option.

For fat grafting, excess fat is removed from the thighs, abdomen, flanks, or another suitable donor site, allowing the procedure to sculpt an additional body part. Dr. Chatson can help you decide if this is a good fit for your needs during your time in our care.
