Breast Augmentation Risks

Breast augmentation procedures can be performed more safely than ever before; however, the risk of complications is something you must understand and accept as part of consenting to surgery.

The risks listed on this page should be considered informational. During a consultation with Dr. George Chatson, you can discuss the risks possible and how our team takes every precaution necessary to avoid complications at each step in the process. We arrange consultations in Andover and Nashua.

Dr. Chatson and our team perform breast augmentation and all of the procedures we offer in a fully accredited, state-of-the-art surgical center. We take sterilization and safety measures seriously, and we prioritize your health and wellbeing.

Although uncommon, the risks of breast augmentation include:

  • Infection
  • Collection of blood (hematoma)
  • Collection of fluid (seroma)
  • Breast pain
  • Reduced sensation in breasts and nipples
  • Anesthesia risks
  • Capsular contracture
  • Implant rippling
  • Implant rupture

When these problems do arise, they can be effectively treated in almost every case. Oftentimes, side effects of surgery like breast pain and swelling will go away in the days and weeks following surgery.
