Mommy Makeover in Nashua, MA

Plastic Surgeon Serving North Andover, Boston, Haverhill, MA - Nashua, Salem, Manchester, NH & Nearby Areas

Pregnancy has a profound impact on nearly every part of a woman’s body. Some of these changes can be addressed through postpartum diet and exercise. Others – such as weakened stomach muscles, excess deposits of fat, and loose or sagging skin – may prove nearly impossible to address on your own.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. George Chatson is pleased to offer the mommy makeover procedure to help women struggling with the physical changes brought about by pregnancy. This procedure focuses on those areas most altered during the course of pregnancy to help women restore a better contoured, more comfortable, and more desirable appearance.

What Is Recovery Like After A Mommy Makeover?

Initial recovery from mommy makeover surgery can take five to seven days depending on factors including which procedures were performed and your body’s natural healing response. During this time, it is important that you take it easy and not strain or stress the body. This initial phase is essential for lasting results.

It is a good idea to have help around the house for this first week especially. You will want to avoid doing anything physically demanding during this time, though several short walks during the day can help to reduce swelling and may speed the recovery process.

Most women are able to return to work within seven days and to resume a majority of their normal activities within two to four weeks, though more demanding activities may need to be avoided for six to eight weeks depending on your needs.

You will visit our Andover, MA or Nashua, NH office for follow-up visits during your recovery. These allow Dr. Chatson to provide you with personalized recommendations and individualized instructions that address your specific needs and work to provide you with the most pleasing results.

What Can I Expect From My Mommy Makeover Results?

Results from your procedure will start to be apparent during your recovery, but full results may take a few months to be realized. Swelling and settling will occur both during the initial recovery phase and in the months that follow. Once these things have subsided, your newly restored contours will be apparent. These results will not last forever, however, unless steps are taken to ensure they do.

Healthy Eating

It is important to remember that breast enlargement procedures are not considered permanent. Breast implants may need to be replaced every ten to fifteen years depending on multiple factors. During your initial consultation, Dr. Chatson can discuss this with you in greater detail to help ensure you are choosing the best type of breast implant for your long-term goals.

Body contouring procedures performed as part of the mommy makeover are permanent to the point you make them. Fat and skin that has been removed will not come back. New fat can accumulate and skin can once again expand, however, if you don’t take steps to prevent it.

You can help maintain your results by:

  • Choosing whole foods
  • Avoiding processed/boxed options
  • Exercising daily

If a healthy diet eludes you, consider working with a nutritionist who can help make the transition easier. A personal trainer can help with the exercise portion as well to help ensure you are getting the right amount of cardio and strength-training for your body-type and eventual goals.

Am I a Good Mommy Makeover Candidate?

To be a good candidate for a mommy makeover you should be satisfied with the number of children you have. While this procedure will not complicate future pregnancies, having more children will significantly impact results. If you are undecided on future children, Dr. Chatson may recommend stand-alone body contouring options such as SAFELipo™ to help you reach your interim goals.

In addition to being at a place in your life where mommy makeover surgery makes sense, good candidates for this procedure must be:

  • Nonsmokers or willing to quit well in advance of surgery
  • In generally good health
  • Prepared for a surgical procedure
  • Able to rest during the recovery period
  • Willing to closely follow Dr. Chatson’s pre and postoperative advice
  • Realistic with goals and expectations
Mommy Makeover Candidates

Lastly, good candidates for a mommy makeover must be within reach of their goal weight. As with all body contouring procedures, a mommy makeover can be used to tone and slim the body, but is not a safe or effective form of weight loss. Dr. Chatson can discuss this in greater detail during your initial consultation.
