Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) Questions

Plastic Surgeon Serving North Andover, Boston, Haverhill, MA - Nashua, Salem, Manchester, NH & Nearby Areas

What problems can blepharoplasty correct?

Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, can correct issues on both the upper and lower eyelids including excess fat and skin, droopy or sagging eyelids, and bags under the eyes. It can also improve vision and remove wrinkles around the eyes to restore a fully refreshed appearance.

Will blepharoplasty raise drooping eyebrows?

Blepharoplasty addresses the eyelid area alone and cannot raise drooping eyebrows. Plastic surgeon Dr. George P. Chatson can combine your eyelid surgery with another facial plastic surgery procedure such as a browlift to provide you with an overall more youthful appearance.

Who is a good candidate for blepharoplasty?

Ideal candidates for blepharoplasty should be in generally good health. They should have healthy facial tissue and muscles around the eyes. During your initial consultation with Dr. Chatson, your candidacy for this procedure can be determined.

What is recovery from blepharoplasty like?

Recovery from blepharoplasty will depend on factors such as your body's natural healing ability and the extent of surgery required to achieve your desired look. Some mild discomfort and swelling are common after blepharoplasty. Dr. Chatson will provide you with medications to reduce your pain. Cold compresses are used in the first 24 hours to reduce discomfort and swelling. Giving your eyes plenty of time to rest will also help to reduce swelling.

Most people are able to return to work within seven to 10 days, but strenuous activities will need to be avoided for up to three weeks. Your final results will be apparent as soon as swelling subsides. If your procedure is combined with a facelift or other surgery, your recovery may be longer.

What are the risks of blepharoplasty?

General surgical risks such as bleeding and infection are possible with any surgery. Risks specific to blepharoplasty include:

  • Skin discoloration
  • Eyelid sagging
  • Unfavorable scarring

These risks are rare, but not impossible.

Dr. Chatson performs all of his surgical procedures in an accredited surgical facility. This helps reduce your risk of surgical complications. Dr. Chatson has been performing blepharoplasty for over 17 years and takes great care to hide scars and provide stunningly beautiful results.
