What is the Best Age for Breast Augmentation?

Andover and Lowell, Massachusetts - Nashua, Salem and Manchester, New Hampshire

The best age for your breast augmentation depends on a number of individual factors, including your aesthetic goals and your overall health.

It is important to note that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved saline breast implants only for women 18 or older and silicone breast implants only for women 22 and older. During your consultation, board-certified Andover plastic surgeon Dr. George P. Chatson will help you determine if breast augmentation is right for you.

Considerations for Breast Augmentation

Many women in their 40s, 50s and beyond also enjoy the benefits of breast augmentation.  However, there are other important factors to consider, such as:

  • Your reasons for desiring breast augmentation
  • Your expectations for breast augmentation
  • Whether you plan to become pregnant after breast augmentation

Although there are minimum age requirements for saline versus silicone breast implants, age is less important than whether you’re in good general health, whether your body and breasts are fully developed, and whether you are emotionally mature with realistic expectations for the results breast augmentation can provide.

Factors That Affect Your Breast Augmentation

As you prepare for breast augmentation, you will have to make a number of decisions that will impact your results. Although Dr. Chatson can make recommendations based on your individual needs and cosmetic goals, you will be involved in selecting aspects of your procedure, including:
