Nasal reshaping, also known as rhinoplasty, is a procedure to change nasal features in order to achieve a more pleasing appearance. Alterations in nasal shape are accomplished by restructuring the internal bony and cartilaginous framework of the nose. Men who seek rhinoplasty often request a reduction in a dorsal hump or a reduction in the overall size of their nose. Some nasal procedures can be accomplished completely through internal nasal incisions (closed rhinoplasty). Patients who require nasal tip reshaping usually benefit from the open rhinoplasty approach which is performed through an inconspicuous incision across the undersurface of the columella which connects to internal nasal incisions. Patients with breathing obstruction due to septal deviation or other structural blockage may have this component of rhinoplasty covered by medical insurance. Dr. Chatson carefully evaluates each rhinoplasty patient in order to understand the patient's goals and expectations. Changes after rhinoplasty may be subtle or dramatic depending on patient preferences.
