Fat grafting fills facial features with a patient's own fat. The fat used for fat transfer is extracted from the abdomen, thighs, or buttocks and injected into another area that requires volume enhancement and contouring.
The advantage of fat grafting is that the fat comes from a patient's own body. Patients cannot develop an allergic reaction such as those that may occur when external implant substances are introduced into the body. The body naturally accepts the injected fat.
Fat grafting can been used for correcting or improving:
- Facial aging such as sunken cheeks and deep nasolabial folds
- Thin lips
- Areas of body contour deformity after prior liposuction
- Facial scarring, e.g. acne scars
- Facial volume in conditions such as hemifacial atrophy
